Spread it rough and in style

Kilims are flat carpets or rugs which are manufactured and produced from South-east Europe to Pakistan. These rugs are impressively decorative and are mainly used as prayer carpets. Recently the Turkish Kilim Rugs are being used as popular floor-coverings by the western population. It looks very sober and stylish. Western civilizations have always improvised upon their style and this adaptation has turned out to be quite fruitful as well.

Kilim signifies “spread it rough”. It is a Persian word and has well suited for the purpose of floor-coverings. The Turkish Kilim rugs are woven tightly to produce a flat surface with limited pile. The pattern is quite interesting and has a classic touch. There are small geometric designs including narrow stripes of various vibrant colors.

The Turkish Kilim rugs feature more motifs and objects woven into the borders. Usually, the color combination is light and catchy. The common layouts are medallions and multiple connected diamond-shaped medallions. However, the most recognized and sale-able design is the famous Herati design which includes a Diamond medallion with small fish all around.

The design looks rare and classy. But the price of these rugs is much lesser than what people anticipate. This is the reason of its increasing popularity and demand. However, in the past few years, Turkish Kilim rugs have become highly sale-able. As a result, the price has been hiked by the suppliers as well. Previously, Turkish Kilim rugs were not a commodity to export and the designs remained the same. But now, with the increased popularity, the suppliers have found interest in these rugs and they readily export various new and ethnic designs all over the globe.
